Court interpreting practice in Rwanda: Challenges and strategies for fair justice

This paper discusses the practice of court interpreting in Rwanda. It examines existing legal framework for interpreters, their practical and professional challenges as well strategies towards improving practice. Using qualitative methods, this study identified a number including selection equipment used interpreting, language proficiency misconceptions general public interpreters lengthy proceedings. The further shows consequences using unprofessional which include miscarriage justice due to inaccurate interpretation or delayed argues, therefore, that Rwanda needs who are not only equipped with required skills judicial through high level training qualification relevant fields but also demonstrate command working languages. is suggested order comply standards international human rights law, Rwandan Judiciary should equip its courts adequate facilities interpreters.
